Phil Spencer to Bloomberg: handheld console, cross-platform policy and state of business

Phil Spencer was interviewed today by the authoritative Bloomberg newspaper, offering us a brief look at the state and future of the Xbox business, mentioning new hardware (including laptops), the acquisition of new studios, and multiplatform policies.

First of all, after the acquisition of so many studios and especially that of Activision, it seems that Microsoft still does not want to end the acquisition of new studios: Spencer has in fact explained that the company is still looking for new studios to add to the team, especially those that can add "geographical diversity", especially Asian ones.

Regarding the future of the Xbox business, Spencer explained that "the Xbox business has never been more informed", evidently thanks to the additional revenues from Activision titles but also thanks to a constant growth of cloud and PC gaming; this, explains the manager, means a brighter future for both games and Xbox hardware.

And precisely regarding the hardware, the head of Xbox explained that dedicated Xbox devices are and will remain important for the business, including portable ones that will arrive, but not for a few years. Spencer also wanted to comment on the cost of the consoles, explaining that the business will never expand with devices that come close to 1000 dollars; it therefore seems that Microsoft is not willing to create hardware that is too expensive.

Spencer also touched on the cross-platform topic, limiting himself to saying that there are no limits or restrictions on games that could go on other consoles; it is evident that the "experiments" done so far have gone very well financially for the Redmond house, so in the future we could see historic and very famous brands land on Sony and Nintendo consoles.

That's it: what do you think of these statements? Let us know in the comments, the discussion is open!
