Yooka and Laylee return in a revised and updated version of their first game

Playtonic, a British studio made up of former Rare developers and other veterans, has announced the development of Yooka-Replaylee, a completely overhauled and updated version, both from a technical and gameplay point of view, of their platformer mascot released in 2017.

The title will benefit from the experience gained by the developers since launch, and the many suggestions provided by fans, to provide us with a "definitive edition" of the game that aimed to bring a Banjo-Kazooie experience back to our consoles.

Here are the main features, the announcement trailer and a set of images.

  • MORE BEAUTIFUL THAN EVER – Completely redesigned designs and animations, increased performance and resolution: improved graphics, movements and sounds for our couple of friends!
  • NEW AND IMPROVED CHALLENGES – Improvements to existing in-game challenges and lots of new trials to discover and play!
  • NEW COLLECTIBLE CURRENCY – The foolish minions of Capital B have scattered their hard-earned coins all over the place. Collect the official currency of the Hivetowers and spend it at the gaming industry's most beloved sentient vending machine: Sell!
  • TRAVEL THE WORLD – Now you can get lost in the game, but not in the world anymore! An all-new game map and challenge tracking system let you know where you are and what you need to do. Hurrah!
  • VENDI HAS SO MUCH TO OFFER – Tonics are back, with many flavors! The option to equip multiple game-modifying power-ups allows you to customize the gameplay to your liking. And if that's not enough for you... Vendi has new product lines for modern, fashion-conscious adventurers.
  • REIMAGINED CONTROLS AND CAMERA – A new moveset allows you to combine smoother movements, while new camera controls make it easy to frame the action.
  • DREAMY ORCHESTRAL SOUNDTRACK – Original music by renowned video game composers Grant Kirkhope (Banjo-Kazooie) and David Wise (Donkey Kong Country) returns with a new orchestral arrangement. Seriously, turn up the volume.
