Todd Howard on Starfield: some details on Shattered Space and upcoming expansions
Regarding the upcoming expansion, Howard explained that unlike Starfield's main campaign, Shattered Space will be set primarily in one large city, meticulously built by the game's designers; So it seems that the new story won't see us traveling much between planets and multiple cities, although we imagine that there will still be several opportunities to use our ship.
As for the breadth of the expansion, Howard explained that it will have roughly the same scope as Fallout 4's Far Harbor DLC: this lasted about 10 hours focusing on the main story, and 20 hours for completionists. It is therefore likely that Shattered Space will have a similar duration.
In addition to this, Howard also spoke about the future of the Starfield series, explaining that it is now for all intents and purposes the "third pillar" of Bethesda Games Studios along with Fallout and The Elder Scrolls; This means that it will continue to be supported for years to come, and specifically the plans are to release a new expansion every year, in order to keep the interest of players always high.
