EA announces UFC 5, arrives in late October

EA today announced EA Vancouver's development of EA Sports UFC 5, the new title dedicated to the world's largest mixed martial arts organization, arriving on October 27 and developed for the first time with the Frostbite engine, intended only for next-generation consoles.

Featuring the new Real Impact System, EA Sports UFC 5 promises to be the ultimate MMA experience, with authentic gameplay and graphics optimized for next-gen consoles.

Here are the official details, followed by the announcement trailer and a set of images.

The debut of the Frostbite Engine in the franchise enhances the realism of MMA in EA SPORTS UFC with 60 frames per second rendering and gameplay simulation. Representing a new era of fighter realism and intensity, UFC middleweight champion Israel Adesanya will star on the cover of the UFC 5 Deluxe Edition, while UFC featherweight champion Alexander Volkanovski and former UFC flyweight champion Valentina Shevchenko will be featured on Standard Edition box art.

The addition of the Real Impact System and the inclusion of many community-requested updates allow UFC 5 to improve in every aspect. Experience realistic hits with hyper-accurate progression, while the wrestlers' attributes are truthfully consumed over the course of the match. Feel the power of every impact with over 64,000 possible combinations of face shots. The new fluid physics and particle systems increase blood and sweat inside the famous Octagon® for an almost 1:1 representation of a main event on Pay-Per-View, while the implementation of the brand new facial animation tool improves the appearance of the fighters. The wrestlers' photorealistic appearance is accentuated by advanced body shaping and strand-based hair during UFC 5 highlights.

In addition to the Real Impact System, advanced graphics and gameplay enhanced by the Frostbite Engine, UFC 5 also includes:

  • Cinematic K.O. Replays: The cinematic replays of the K.O. show the final moments of the fights with more intense graphics and greater emotion. Presented in super slow motion with cinematic angles and lights, the impact of the final blows of the fights represents highlight reel moments that capture the full emphasis of a UFC fight.

  • Medical checks and interruptions: A serious injury causes the referee to suspend the match for a ringside medical check-up. The inability to adapt and protect the injury from further injury can lead to an interruption of the doctor, introducing strategic variables faithful to the sport that players have to manage under greater pressure.

  • New Blows and Hit Reactions: New hit animations emulate aggressive boxers, professional kickboxers, and more, along with new movement variations for ground elbows, spinning attacks, body punches, and calf kicks. The animations and physics of the reaction of the blows during fast-paced combat can also trigger clean impacts, moments that players can feel more during the game.

  • Seamless Submissions: The renewed Seamless Submissions expand the existing gripping system with faster animation transitions and the removal of mini-games. Grapple Assist helps beginners, while veterans can explore deeper levels. Seamless submissions provide smoother and more authentic ground play for grappling enthusiasts.

  • Fight Week and Alter Ego: The launch of UFC 5 includes a revamped live service with features like Fight Week and Fight Picks tied to real-life UFC events. Alter Egos are completely new versions of the most important boxers, which take up the highlights of their career and provide alternative looks and associated skills.
