Activision Blizzard acquisition: Microsoft wins in US court and settles with CMA UK

It seems that one of the catchphrases that have kept us company for more than a year now, that of the acquisition of Activision Blizzard King (ABK) by Microsoft, could soon reach its epilogue, in a positive way for Microsoft and ABK.

We are in fact faced with not one, but two very important events for the merger process, both communicated within minutes of each other.

The first concerns the ongoing trial in the United States: today the US judge Jacqueline Corley, who presided over the trial between Microsoft and the FTC government agency relating to the latter's injunction to prevent the merger between the two giants, has finally agreed with MS / ABK stating that the FTC has failed to demonstrate that this acquisition would penalize the video game market, nor that Microsoft would have an interest in removing Call of Duty from Sony's platforms. Now the FTC has very few days, until July 14 (previously it would have been until the 18th, but the judge wanted to shorten this deadline) to file an appeal, but it is not said that it succeeds or wants to do so, since it has no other cards to play besides those, very weak, already presented so far.

So in the US the acquisition would seem to be going towards a complete resolution. But there is also good news from the UK: Microsoft, ABK and the British body CMA have in fact filed a joint application with the UK court to suspend the ongoing trial because they want to start negotiations to agree outside the court and definitively close the matter. It therefore seems that even in the United Kingdom things are going well for this now much talked about acquisition.

We'll update you on upcoming developments, but given how things are going, it's possible that the biggest acquisition ever seen in the video game industry is finally coming to fruition. We will keep you updated!
