Redfall returns to talk about itself with new information: open world, missions, gunplay
Among the many information released by the team, we find some particularly interesting for those who were worried that, given the co-op focus of the title, it was a sort of Left 4 Dead or in any case not suitable for fans of Arkane's classic immersive shooters .
Specifically, the team first explains that the game will be set in a huge open world that can be freely explored, with dimensions much larger than, for example, those of Prey's Talos I station. This therefore means that there will be neither separate levels, nor that the world will be divided into open macro-areas as for example happens in Dishonored and Deathloop, but everything will take place in the same single world, which is precisely the city of Redfall.
In this setting we will have our own base of operations populated by other characters, in which we can accept secondary missions or we can go to the mission table to take the missions of the main story, which will be strictly story-driven, that is, there will be a story to lead us from objective to objective. Alternatively, we can also decide to simply leave the headquarters and go to explore the game world: the developers explain that, in doing so, we can come across powerful and emotional moments, as well as moments of intense action.
An example the team gives is the following: "We want you to sneak into a wheat field at night, in the fog, hearing vampires whispering in the dark. You may spot a farm in the distance, only to discover that it's full of cultists and a few trapped survivors you can rescue. That's the kind of atmosphere you get in Redfall."
The guys at Arkane also specified that, this time, gunplay is more crucial than ever, so the team hired FPS specialists and also enlisted the help of id Software (DOOM) to make sure that the game's shootouts are extremely satisfying even for the most demanding players.
Among other interesting information that has been released we learn that the city will present us with two main areas, the urban area and the surrounding countryside, and the game will have a complete night / day cycle that will radically change the feeling of the game, as it is obvious that it is in a game about vampires.
Finally, Arkane confirms that, although the game is designed for co-op, it will be playable and satisfying even in single player: in this case we will choose one of the four characters present (Devinder Crousley, Layla Ellison, Jacob Boyer and Remi De La Rosa), each of which has unique skills and powers. The dialogues of the game will also change according to the character chosen, so playing the adventure with different characters we can explore different aspects of the story.
Despite the great focus on gunplay, moreover, we can also decide to face the game with a stealth approach, or of course also a mix between the action with open weapons and stealth: this will be possible thanks to the wide range of weapons and unique powers of the characters. Even the environments will be important in the game economy: there are in fact lethal environmental dangers to which we will have to pay attention not to lose the feathers, but that we can also use to our advantage to fight vampires. In the same way, there will be "safe places" in which to shelter, with the possibility of activating battery-powered UV lights (therefore of limited duration) to create areas that protect us from enemies. Finally, there is a character progression system that will see us update and enhance our skills as we progress in the game.
That's all for now: we hope to soon have more information, gameplay and above all the release date of the game!
