SEGA today announced the development of Like a Dragon: Ishin!, a remake of Yakuza: Ishin!, a spin-off of the Yakuza series set in Japan in the 1860s and starring characters from the "modern" episodes of the series. In addition to this, the publisher also announced the singular decision to change the name of the series from Yakuza to Like a Dragon, so future episodes of the main series will also bear this name, already introduced as a subtitle in Yakuza: Like a Dragon (Yakuza 7).

A hero of Japanese history leads to the end of the samurai

Like a Dragon: Ishin! is a historical action-adventure thriller set solely in the Kyo of the 1860s, a fictionalized version of Kyoto. While other games tell earlier stories of Japanese history, Like a Dragon: Ishin! lets you experience the story of how the iconic samurai era disappeared. Our hero, Sakamoto Ryoma, is a true historical figure who is credited with overthrowing the shogunate and leading Japan to radical reform.

Like a Dragon: Ishin! brings together familiar faces to tell this epic story. Fans will recognize our protagonist, Kazuma Kiryu, from previous titles in the franchise. In Like a Dragon: Ishin!, Kiryu takes on the role of Sakamoto Ryoma and takes the rest of his team with him. Goro Majima and other Yakuza celebrities join Ryoma as friends and foes in this fictional world that swaps the flashy streets of Tokyo for the chaotic hustle and bustle of the Kyo of the 1860s. These new character dynamics are as exciting as they are unexpected, with a series of mind-blowing twists in a story that only Studio Ryu Ga Gotoku can tell.

Four deadly fighting styles and addictive action

In Like a Dragon: Ishin! you can hit enemies with a lethal blade using the Swordsman style or shoot with a revolver using the Gunslinger style. Better yet, wield both the gun and the sword and unleash the fury with the Wild Dancer style. And when you're feeling even more brutal, smash a few skulls with bare fists in brawler style.

But that's not all. It wouldn't be a Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio title without epically absurd actions. Summon a tiger to tear your opponents apart, stick pickled plums in the throats of your enemies, and wield an entire cannon to take down opponents. The actions of Like a Dragon: Ishin! will make you want to discover new moves at every stage of the game.

For the first time on Unreal Engine 4

Like a Dragon: Ishin! is the first Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio title to be made on Unreal Engine 4, bringing stunning graphic quality to the Like a Dragon franchise. Development on Unreal Engine 4 has unlocked new textures and other graphic details that make Like a Dragon: Ishin! one of the most cinematic stories in Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio's history.
