Dolby Vision is now available for Xbox Series X|S games, supported by over 100 titles
Thanks to the partnership with Dolby Digital, the Redmond company wants to further improve the gaming experience, but for the less accustomed to technical terms, let's clarify what Dolby Vision is and the differences with HDR.
Until a few years ago, TVs were all based on SDR protocol, that is, they reproduced a low quality of colors and contrasts, covering about 35% of the color scale perceived by the human eye, through 8-bit panels. With the HDR system we have arrived, thanks to panels from 10 bits upwards, to cover a chromatic scale ranging from 50 to 75% of perceived by the human eye. However, HDR has the limit of having a fixed palette for the entire duration of a game/movie, not adaptable to individual scenes. This changes with the Dolby Visionsystem, which in addition to exploiting 12-bit panels allows movies and games to adapt colors and contrasts to the scenes in progress,so as to offer an optimal view of all the scenes. Already some streaming majors use this new technology, and it is spectacular that it finally arrives in gaming.
If you have a TV that supports this format, you can enable it by going to the video settings and activating the "Dolby Vision for Games" option.
