Ubisoft today announced a new title that will be added to the now large array of free-to-play online shooters: Tom Clancy's XDefiant will see teams of six players clash using characters inspired by the Rainbow Six, The Division, Ghost Recon and Splinter Cell franchises with extremely fast-paced gameplay.

The game, for now without a release date, can soon be tested in a Closed Beta (initially only for PC, but then also coming to consoles) to which you can subscribe from the official website.

Tom Clancy's XDefiant is a competitive free-to-play multiplayer shooter coming to PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One and Ubisoft Connect, Luna and Stadia, with full cross-play available at launch. XDefiant brings together multiple Clancy franchises to form a roster of customizable characters, known as Rebels,from which players will be able to choose. At launch, XDefiant will feature four factions: Wolves (Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon), Echelon (Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell), and outcasts and cleaners (Tom Clancy's The Division). Matches will take place on a variety of maps with 6v6 arena battles and objective-based game modes like Team Deathmatch, Domination, and Escort.

Rebels can be customized to suit play styles; when a round begins, players can choose a faction with unique traits, abilities, and ultras before arming their Rebel with primary and secondary weapons, accessories, and a device to complete their loadout. Equipment can be changed during respawn, so players can adapt to what their enemies are doing and try to gain the advantage.

While skills, traits, and ultras can provide useful perks against the competition, there's no substitute for solid shooting ability, and the team at Ubisoft San Francisco, led by executive producer Mark Rubin and creative director Jason Schroeder, are making XDefiant's gameplay focus on shootouts first.

• Custom PlayStyle - Customize your Rebel according to your playstyle. Choose faction, traits, abilities and ultras. Make your choice from an arsenal of primary and secondary weapons, equipment and devices, and descend onto the battlefield with a complete paraphernalia. Then tweak it on time to fit an ever-changing battlefield.
• Competitive Clashes - Tom Clancy's XDefiant offers a wide selection of competitive 6v6 arenas and linear game modes, such as Dominion and Escort. There you will also find a huge range of unique maps, which will make each challenge different from the others.
• The rebel factions - Wolves, Outedets, Purifiers and Echelon fight in emblematic places, but this is only the beginning of the adventure. As the game evolves, our Rebel lineup will continue to be enriched with characters and abilities from the Clancy universe and beyond.
