Rumor: New details on The Initiative game, will be a stealth game "in seasons"

In recent days, a rumor has begun to circulate, not very solid, about the fact that the highly anticipated title of The Initiative (the new Microsoft studio that has made talent from numerous famous studios) would be "episodic", which made fans talk a lot. Now Windows Central journalist Jez Corden and youtuber Rand at Thor have spoken out on the subject on their podcast, revealing all the voices heard about it.

The two have pitted a series of game information received from various sources: we summarize them all below:

  • The game will be set inthe Perfect Dark universe, which will provide the title with a futuristic/cyberpunk-style setting
  • The gameplay will be the basis of a stealth game in the third person
  • It will not be an episodic game, but rather "seasonal". This could mean that it will have more seasons as in a TVseries, during which new content will arrive for the story
  • It will not be a Naughty Dog-style "super-cinematic" title; will have a kinematic component but will be a more experimentaltitle, closer to remedy entertainment's works as a philosophy
  • Although it has great talents within it, The Initiative is not a super-studio: their goal is to remain small and "agile", and they are not intended to create huge games at God of War (note from MX: the label "AAAA" was never given to him by Microsoft or the studio executives, but by an external personal research agency that had "exaggerated" a little to attract more talent)
  • We should have news of their game soon, maybe even at the TGA, in less than a week.

Unfortunately, these details don't tell us much about the title, but the fact that it can be a stealth game set in a futuristic world is very interesting: in the past Phil Spencer said that The Initiative is doing "old things in new ways", and perhaps he was referring precisely to the fact of producing a stealth game, a genre now classic, but with new or innovative mechanics.

The references to the seasonal and experimental structure of the game are instead the most difficult to decipher, but Jez and Rand seem to want to make it clear that we will not be faced with a monolithic super-production but with a title that will start more collected and then expand and grow over time. As always, we just have to wait to find out how true this will turn out to be: let's hope the TGA is really an opportunity to discover the game!
