After the leak on eFootball PES 2021 Season Update, which saw the new episode of PES as a simple re-release of PES 2020 with the addition of the updated roses to the next championship and sold at a cheap price, Konami intervened officially confirming what had already been leaked and stating that this choice was made to give the team time to realize the next-gen version of the franchise, expected to be released at the end of 2021.

This year we will then play the same title as last year with players and teams updated, while with PES 2022 we will enjoy a real next-gen remake that, we discover from a short teaser trailer released on the occasion of the announcement, will abandon the Fox Engine to move to the Unreal Engine.
