Microsoft announces the closure of Mixer and teams up with Facebook Gaming

Here's some unexpected news, though it won't surprise the most careful: Microsoft today announced the closure of the Mixer service from July 22. The service, derived from the acquisition of the Beam platform in 2016, failed to gain audiences over Twitch despite the exclusive engagement of popular streamers such as Ninja and Shroud, and Microsoft decided to change its plans on the streaming front.

And the new plans include a partnership with Facebook Gaming, the social giant's live streaming platform: all users with a Mixer account will be able to convert it by July 22 into a Facebook Gaming account, while from that date both the site and the Mixer app will redirect directly to Facebook's service.

It's unclear for now how the Xbox One interface will change, but it's obvious that the Mixer section will be removed and that it will no longer be able to stream on Mixer; Will these features be replaced by integration with Facebook Gaming? We have no way of knowing yet, but it is very likely that Microsoft is also betting heavily on this partnership to push the adoption of xCloud: Facebook Gaming will in fact become one of the means through which the service will be delivered.

That's it for now: we'll update you when more information about switching users from Mixer to Facebook Gaming and changes to the Xbox interface is revealed.
