Microsoft Launches Digital Direct: Codes Preinstalled in Consoles Starting with Cyberpunk 2077
How does that work? It's very simple. During the installation process of the new console, the content and services sold bundled with the console will be indicated by a menu with the option to redeem them on the account that you are configuring for the console. Just click on "Redeem" to tie this content to your account: from this moment on they will no longer be tied to the console but to the account, like any game purchased digitally. Then you can use them on other consoles if you log in with your account, share with friends, and so on.
But what happens if you decide not to redeem them? Content bundled with the console will remain available in a menu in the "Collections" section of "My Games and Apps," named"Included with this Xbox." From here, you can redeem them for the account logged into the console at that time. If you are not interested in the content and want to give it to a friend, simply log it on your console and have it redeem the content on their account.
Once redeemed, the content will no longer be available as console content and will remain permanently tied to the account that redeemed it.
This move is obviously aimed at limiting the resale of bundled codes, mainly by online stores that check codes included in console packages and then resell them at bargain prices. But it will also create some problems for those who maybe buy a bundled console with a game that they don't care about and who maybe wanted to recover some of the price by selling the games to other players. In this case, the only option remaining is to log the person interested in the game to the console and have them redeem the game, as explained just before.
