inXile: the next project will use Unreal Engine 5, perhaps in historical setting
To a direct question from a fan, Brian Fargo's studio responded on Twitter that yes, the game will take advantage of the new Engine of Epic Games recently shown in action, although "it will take a while"before it is shown: the studio is in fact committed to completing Wasteland 3 after which it will move to the full production of the new game. This means that, in all likelihood, it won't be among the titles revealed at the Xbox showcase in July unless Microsoft just wants to reveal its name and maybe show a gameplay-free concept trailer. We're probably talking about a stock coming out no earlier than 2022.
There is, however, another interesting information about the game, which comes once again from a job advertisement: inXile is looking for a Senior Environment Artist (an artist dedicated to the realization of the settings), and in the description of the required qualifications we find these interesting elements:
- Practical knowledge of real-world architectural construction
- Imagining, creating and producing artistic assets ranging from realistic to slightly stylized
- Deep knowledge of architectural styles and history
- Experience on a first and/or third person game
These descriptions lead us to believe that the new RPG may not be fantasy or sci-fi but have a realistic setting, set in our world, and probably historical, perhaps medieval or Renaissance. Obviously this is just our guess, but we could be completely out of the way. We can't wait to learn more!
