Phil Spencer talks Xbox Series X and the future of Xbox games: here's what he said

US website IGN has published a video interview with the head of Microsoft's gaming division, Phil Spencer,in which it answers many interesting questions about Xbox Series X and the future of Xbox games. You can see the full interview, obviously in English, in this video, but we tried to extract the most interesting information below.

Regarding Xbox Series X,Spencer explains that he is very pleased with the work done by the console design team and is convinced that Microsoft has an outstanding product on its hands: the manager also states that these beliefs have even improved after the public revelation of PS5 features:"When I saw the public announcement, I [delle caratteristiche di PS5] was even happier with the choices we made for our platform. I had a lot of confidence in our hardware team. The work done by Jason Ronald and his team is just fantastic."

And when IGN asked him if the console will be able to meet its exit plans at the end of the year, despite the current global health crisis, Spencer certainly seemed confident explaining that although there were a couple of months during which production in China slowed, it is now picking up at the usual pace and production forecasts coming from factories are certainly encouraging. However, the manager also wanted to emphasize that the safety and health of the team is a priority for him, so if the situation worsens, the plans could change:he would prefer to make sure everyone is safe rather than ensuring the launch in the timing of the console. However, for now, even if everyone is working from home and it is certainly more difficult to organize all future launch and marketing plans in this way, is confident in the team's ability to carry on the work started.

Coming to the topic games, instead, Spencer explains that he knows well that the hardware is important, but it is the gamesthat catch the attention of fans : that's why the console was revealed at the TGA in December along with Hellblade 2: Senua's Saga, because they did not want to show only the name and appearance of Xbox Series X but also what is capable in terms of games. And this will continue in the future, as the hardware and design topic has now been largely unmarked: "Much of our ads from now on will be related to the big games that people will be able to play",adding that " We willmake announcements between now and the period when E3 should have taken place. We will have announcements over the summer. As our teams prepare things to show, we will try to figure out how to use [riferimento, questo, a dirette streaming ed altri eventi online] digital formats to make our fans enjoy these experiences." In short, it is clear that Microsoft has a lot of meat to throw on the fire with regard to game ads, and will propose it to us every step now, even outside the main events of E3 (which will take place exclusively online) and gamescom (the fate of which will be revealed in mid-May, but which we know will not cancel its online component as the opening event).

But what will these games be? Of course Spencer doesn't unbutton, but he still hints at a rosy future for Xbox Game Studios, explaining that the line-up of titles in development has never been stronger and suggesting that there will also be interesting third-partyexclusives: "For XGS [la sezione di XGS che segue gli accordi di terze parti, appunto] Publishing, we have unreconounced agreements of which we are very, very excited."

The manager explains however that, for Xbox Series X,the important thing will not be to have all these games at launch but to provide a steady stream of new games from launch onwards. Spencer also addresses the topic of new IPs versus existing IPs,explaining that both are important and that the XGS team is working hard to maintain a balance between the two: there will be many new series (such as the already announced Everwild),but also many historical series or the past of Xbox; he himself would like to see the return of series such as Shadowrun and Mechwarrior, but says that studies for now are not working on these.

In short, it seems that on the Xbox games front we will have to expect a lot of interesting news between now and the end of the year: as always you keep following us to discover them all!
