Matt Booty: Microsoft games over the next two years will also be playing on Xbox One
Over time it was thought that it was actually referring to xCloud, in fact because Senua's Saga: Hellblade II was only announced for Xbox Series X. An interview by Matt Booty, the head of Xbox studies, published today by the British website MCV,suggests that Spencer's statement was to be taken more literally.
Booty says:"As our content comes over the next one, two years, all of our games, similar to PCs, will be playable on both newand old consoles. We want to make sure that if someone has invested in Xbox, between now and the release of Series X, they feel they've made a good investment and we're determined to provide content with it."
One of these games is already known: Halo Infinite will in fact be playable on both Xbox One and Series X, but Booty's statement makes it clear that any other titles coming until at least the end of 2021 (the upcoming Forza Motorsport/Horizon, maybe even Everwild and Hellblade II in addition to all the other games scheduled for release in the next two years but not yet announced) will be playable both on the new and current consoles.
However, the manager points out that this does not mean that the powerful hardware of Xbox Series X will not be exploited, explaining that teams will make sure to squeeze the new hardware to the maximum. It makes us understand that the launch of the new console will be accompanied by a couple of exclusives, with others likely to arrive in the following months:"Our approach is to take one or two IPs to focus on and make sure that they get to the launch of the console, taking advantage of all the features. And it [una di queste] will be Halo Infinite,a great opportunity. It is the first time in over 15 years that we have launched a Halo at the same time with a new console. And the team will definitely benefit."
It will certainly be interesting to see the first comparisons between the Xbox One and that Xbox Series X version of the title of 343 Industries, to understand how big and important the differences will be.
Booty then moves on to the topic of the acquisition scan of new studios, explaining that there may be more in the future but that for now Microsoft is satisfied with the current stable and will focus primarily on growing new studios by helping them to produce higher quality content. The interview continues with other interesting, if less important, things: you can read it in full, of course and in English, on this page.
