Fergusson: Gears 5 takes more risks than GoW 4
Fergusson explained that with Gears 5 the team is taking greater risks in diverting the title from the classic canons of the series; Of course, the heart of the game remains the cover shooter mechanics that the series has made famous and that have been emulated by numerous other games, but there will be big and small changes to the classic mechanics of the franchise.
An example was during last year's E3, with the protagonist Kait walking along a frozen lake aboard the Skiff, the new "sails "that will allow us to move not only on vast icy expanses but also on sandy deserts, like the red sand shown in one of the game's images (above); Fergusson also explains that the hand-to-hand combat system will be changed with the Lancer's chainsaw by moving the attack button from the B button to the right dorsal, which will allow us to keep our thumb free to rotate the camera during the fight and prepare to attack other enemies, and that will be given much more importance to the weak points of the enemies.
Among the more radical changes, however, we will also find the addition of the health bar onenemies, an absolute novelty for the series that aims to allow players to better choose which enemies to attack first on the battlefield: who does not appreciate this new feature, but you can turn it off completely in the game options. For the lowest difficulty of the game, there will even be a lock mode ofenemies, so that the shots always land even as we move.
These are just examples of how Gears 5 will change from previous titles in the series, but we should expect further changes that will further diverge from the classic "runner shooter" mechanics; how impactful these will be we will be able to assess it on September 10, the launch date of the game.
