New rumor about Project Scarlett and Gears 5: let's point

The last few weeks have been interesting for Xbox fans who follow the most popular discussion areas in USA: has in fact spoken of the possible specs of the next Xbox, codenamed Project Scarlett , but also some of the features that will Gears 5 , the newest game in the series coming later this year. As you know we at MondoXbox we are always wary about jumping on the train of clickbait emphasizing a rumor concerns or not validated by reliable sources, so we decided to wait until they become stronger before we tell you about it, which is somehow occurred: see you then put in the correct order as shown.

We start of course by more hot : the new Xbox. A dozen days ago an unknown user Reddit has posted those who claimed to be the next Xbox; followed by the General skepticism of the forum users, his post was quickly removed but there is no trace in Google cache and, if it is removed there too, we have uploaded an image on Imgur .

This is a rumor very unreliable: any user and without a history of leaks confirmed behind is the worst that can be, from this point of view. But this week it happened that some of this information have found support from an insider more accredited, and we are now here to tell you about it.

Let's see then first initial, reported the leak about the next Xbox, but keep in mind that some of this information is incorrect /non confirmed:

Next Xbox Streaming (Lockhart) @ $249:

  • CPU: Custom 8 CORE 2/16 THREAD ZEN
  • GPU: Custom SHIPS 4 TERAFLOPS or more
  • Memory: 12 GB GDDR6
  • Mass storage: 1 TB SSD NVMe
  • Raytracing DIRECTX + IA MS

Next Xbox X (Anaconda) @ $499:

  • CPU: Custom 8 CORE 2/16 THREAD ZEN
  • GPU: Custom SHIPS from 12 TERAFLOPS or more
  • Memory: 12 GB GDDR6
  • Mass storage: 1 TB SSD NVMe
  • Raytracing DIRECTX + IA MS

both consoles will arrive for Christmas 2020. The XDK for the next Xbox will start to be deployed in April or may 2019. Both consoles will have highly customized CPU and GPU, and both will support RayTracing with DXR [la libreria RayTracing di DirectX, ndt] . I know of a few customizations and implementations rather amazing. We'll start to see these things around at GDC [la Game Developers Conference, che avrà luogo dal 18 al 22 marzo, ndt] .

The next Xbox will be fully backwards compatible with Xbox 360 titles, including One and the first Xbox. All generations in a single console.

When the post arrived on Reddit, it was easy for someone who didn't know inventions branded really anything but he had guessed rebuilding information from previous rumor, but then came the forum insider known post ResetEra hmqgg , whose knowledge of the topic has been verified by forum moderators, who commented as the alleged leak:

  1. The hardware is partially true
  2. The mass memory is true
  3. The ray tracing is true
  4. Lockhart is not the Xbox streaming
  5. The codename of SoC (single chip that will integrate GPU, CPU and other parts of the system) to the new Xbox has the code name Anubis, controlled AMD plans
  6. The AI is not part of the hardware; in other words I have never heard of your processor parts that relate to
  7. How will it be implemented ray tracing? Wait for GDC 2019
  8. Why they decided to produce even Lockhart? Expect the GDC 2019
  9. Why aren't there any DevKit? Arriving after the GDC 2019

From these comments we get then a picture quite clear of the next (indeed, forthcoming) Xbox, we could summarize this way:

  • They will arrive two different consoles , a less powerful and the other "top of the line", very different (maybe even a half of each other) and for a more casual audience and the other to the super fans who want the best of the best. However, both will be able to run the same games , obviously with different quality and performance and probably with greater differences we see between Xbox One S and x. the cheapest one, Lockhart, however, is not the rumoreggiata streaming games consoles.
  • Although equipped with a AMD (which does not natively support RayTracing), the next Xbox will be able to render the scene (or at least parts of them, as is the case with RTX technology from Nvidia) in ray tracing . How this is possible will be revealed at GDC in March, but it is very likely it has something to do with AI algorithms that Microsoft will include in the RT of DirectX.
  • Both consoles will have a 1 TB SSD hard drives, which are sure to be side by side external disks as it does today.
  • The GDC 2019 will be a very important event for understanding the future plans of the Xbox, at least from the perspective of developers and future technological developments. It is also likely that at that time Microsoft introduces a technology that will allow developers to create even more easily games that adapt smoothly to very different hardware, further facilitating the coexistence of console different specifications.

The "leak" Reddit original also suggests that all new Xbox launch titles will be playable even on the current Xbox One, but this has not been reflected in the post of the ResetEra insider, so for now we don't know how reliable the information.

On the sidelines of this are always entitled hmqgg showed up in another post some interesting info on Gears 5 , from which emerges a game much more ambitious than the fourth episode. In detail:

  • Customizable weapons
  • Campaign maps 20 times bigger
  • Much longer campaign
  • Most dynamic and varied environments
  • Completely new Horde mode
  • PvP experience different

This confirms that the developers of The Coalition had proclaimed to the revelation of Gears 5 : GoW4 was only served to "warm up" and show the world that they were able to produce a valid episode remaining in the classical canons of the series, while the new game will serve to show everyone that I can evolve the series to new horizons. We can't wait to learn more!
