Spencer: most of the titles of the first Xbox backwards will not support the widescreen

At E3, Microsoft announced the arrival on Xbox One, for the autumn, the backwards compatibility with the titles of the first Xbox, which will allow us to replay some of the most popular games of more than a decade ago. Now responding to a fan on Facebook, Phil Spencer made it clear a detail of how to view the games.

Spencer explained that many of the titles of the first Xbox will not be displayed in the format 16:9, also known as widescreen , but will be in 4:3, probably with black bars or some other kind of frame on the sides. This is because it is not exactly the same but titles released remaster in good time, and if so, did not support the format 16:9 will not be able to do it either now on the new console.

This does not mean that there will be no widescreen games: the first Xbox was a console really ahead of its time, and several titles supported 16:9: among these we mention Rallisport Challenge , Red Dead Revolver , Fable , Jade Empire , Max Payne , Mechassault and many others. But that's not all: some titles like Amped 2 and Soulcalibur II supported even the resolution 720 p instead of 480 most popular, so then they should be definitely more pleasing to the eye on modern TV.

To date is unknown the title list of the first Xbox to be backwards compatible to the launch of the feature: we await news about that in all likelihood will arrive during the Gamescom in August. Stay tuned!
