Spencer: Xbox One X is not sold in profit, the earnings you make on the games
In an interview with Business Insider , the head of Xbox Phil Spencer has explained that Microsoft doesn't earn anything from selling Xbox One X : This means that the console is sold at cost or at a loss. The manager has not wanted to confirm which of these two cases: when the reporter he badgered asking him if the console is sold at a loss, Spencer has simply responded " it's not what I said ."
Spencer then deepened by explaining that the sale of hardware is not what brings gains in business Xbox, but it's the sale of games : obviously more hardware is sold and more games (along with DLC and Live subscriptions) you sell, and here are the real profits. Of course this also goes from party games, because for every game sold, even by other publishers, Microsoft holds a market share estimated at 30% of the price.
In light of these statements, it seems obvious because Microsoft has launched the initiative Xbox Play Anywhere , which sees the exclusive Xbox also arrive on PC via the Windows Store: If the profits come from selling games, Microsoft cares that are played and purchased on one of its platforms, but not necessarily on Xbox One. This widens the catchment area and brings more money.
We remind you that Xbox One X is expected in stores for November 7.
