The single player In Battlefield 1
Fight worldwide thanks to a compelling anthology of war stories
In Battlefield 1 you can face what we call war stories: a series of personal experiences, focusing on different characters, each with their own background and abilities. While the characters fight, the events in Battlefield 1 take on a personal nature. Focus on people more than on history or on the battles.
The great war was a conflict different. We knew right away by having to exploit this characteristic. The characters and prospects of World War I are extremely different, we wanted to cover as many as possible.
This got us thinking about the format to adopt for the Battlefield single player 1. The idea of a single protagonist who moved in various places there was compelling, neither able to fully respect the setting. So we decided to opt for an anthology, a series of characters, each with their own story. In this way we obtained involvement and variety: we got two birds with one stone!
An example is the story of war blood and mud . Takes place in the final stages of the conflict and focuses on the crew of a British tank Mark V. The protagonist is a young soldier, assigned as a pilot with the unit. The boy does not have any experience with the modern medium fighter: he must learn the field and will have to do it quickly! Additionally, you must make sure that his new teammates begin to trust him. There is a social dynamic in history, which makes it very personal. Danny Edwards, the pilot, is not a marksman. It is not an experienced driver. He doesn't know how to destroy with explosives. It's just a guy who was the driver and he enlisted volunteer. Know how to drive and know how to fix things. This is the starting point.
In previous episodes of Battlefield we lived the story through the eyes of a main character. Rarely the action moved elsewhere. In Battlefield 1, instead, we decided to have more prominent characters, instead of just tell the player "you are the hero". One way to accomplish this is to use animation sequences, allowing to see the character more fully, than the first-person action. We wanted the player to see and feel what they felt the characters, but are not limited to experience it through their eyes. This choice was beneficial not only in terms of storytelling, but also from that of emotional involvement.
One of the sources of inspiration for the single player mode has always been the way people think, Act and play in multiplayer. When he tackles a game of Battlefield, usually you have a goal, the equipment and a plan. This plan often becomes impassable in the course of the action, so you have to improvise, adapt to the enemies and vehicles that you are facing.
We decided to use an action game, which provide a lot of freedom and that makes Battlefield a game more and more spectacular.
For example, in the aforementioned blood and mud, there is a section called the fog of war. Here, suddenly, we find ourselves in a forest shrouded in fog. Due to poor visibility, you must precede the chariot on foot, eliminating enemies present. If you want, you can use explosives to destroy the enemy's anti-tank weapons, or you can choose to come quietly, hitting with melee attacks.
Eventually you will come across an enemy base, relatively large, which houses some field guns. You can destroy them, to protect your wagon, or use it against the enemy. You can also delete the crew of an enemy tank, so that you may inherit. All this was meant to allow players to face the mission as they wish, just as in multiplayer.
Thanks to Battlefield single player 1 will also meet historic figures. Probably a name that everyone knows is to Lawrence of Arabia, controversial figure. Along with the Red Baron, Lawrence is one of the most famous people of World War I. I hope that players are stoked to be able to spend time with him.
Forced to face an enemy technically superior, Lawrence is in a very complicated situation, in Battlefield 1. The Ottoman Empire can count on an armoured train, Canavar (meaning "beast", in Turkish), armed with a powerful piece of artillery, with a range of several kilometers. The devastating artillery of the Empire attacks rebel forces, composed of Knights armed with rifles.
In Battlefield 1, you can impersonate an Arab rebel, who plays the role of Lawrence's right arm. This character has to use one style of play extremely adaptable to examine the enemy encampments, finding the equipment needed and attract armoured train in place of the final battle. You can fight openly, secretly, from a distance, up close, on horseback or aboard another vehicle.
In summary, the single player of Battlefield 1 offers plenty of war stories to be discovered. Hopefully they will be appreciated by all at the exit of Battlefield 1 , on October 21 .
