Fallout 4: Bethesda tells us how to become managers of a Vault with the Vault-Tec Workshop

Bethesda shows us now more thoroughly the characteristics of DLC Fallout 4 , Vault-Tec Workshop , which will allow us, for the first time in the series, to build from scratch and maintain our Vault, with the possibility of "experiments on the inhabitants as a real Superintendent" .

The DLC will be available from July 26 on Xbox One : all information provided below.

The Vault. Our houses underground. Safe from the radioactive wastes and the creatures that infest (well, almost ... but more on that later). In Fallout 4, you will begin your journey into the Vault 111, and during the game you will have the opportunity to explore other Vault. But for the first time in a title of the Fallout series, you can also build a Vault. With Vault-Tec Workshop, the latest DLC for Fallout 4, coming to PlayStation 4, Xbox 360 and PC on July 26, you can customize the life inside the Vault. You will have the opportunity to build your Vault, complete with many new objects. You can even perform experiments on the inhabitants, as a supervisor.

But it all begins with a cry for help. Classic Fallout, the rest is up to you.

Welcome to the Vault 88

If your character's level is higher than 20, you will receive a distress no matter where you are, you will alert of an emergency situation in the Vault 88. Once you arrive and eliminated some Marauders who are trying to enter, you will encounter the odd Vault supervisor: a woman, the only survivor of the inhabitants of Vault 88, where it trapped and then turn into Ghouls. In fact, the bombs fell before her Vault was completed, so he spent the last 200 years waiting to be able to build. But this did not affect his loyalty towards the Vault-Tec, and not wait to perform experiments on the unsuspecting inhabitants.

And here begins the real mission of Vault-Tec Workshop. Leave interviewing potential inhabitants, looking for the perfect guinea pigs for your questionable experiments. Once this is done, you will be instructed to carry out a series of experiments, each with different outcomes depending on the choices you make. You will be a benevolent leader? A cruel tyrant? Or maybe something in between?

The choice of test parameters affect the final objectives of the experiments, so think carefully. The product of an experiment will be permanently added to the workshop, allowing you to build it at any time.

"This is the first DLC missions include Workshop series," says Kurt Kuhlmann, Chief Designer of Vault-Tec Workshop. "Given that the DLC is set in a specific place ... you will have a physical environment, and not just elements, to play with ... we could add the missions that fit the content offered.

But you will not be forced to complete missions. If you just want to enjoy the experience of the Workshop series and are not interested in the narrative, you will always be able to kill the poor Superintendent ghoul, or order them to leave the Vault. Even if you choose to kill or banish it, you can build a basic version of every object related to the experiments.

If you haven't yet reached level 20, don't worry. You can still access the new mission but Kuhlmann warns: "why we don't send the message at lower levels is that the scenery is at least level 35, then could be very difficult. If you decide to explore it at level 5, you'll probably be killed. "

Interior design

Gained access to this huge space, you will need several things to fill it. Fortunately, Vault-Tec Workshop will provide you with many new recipes. "There's a whole new catalog objects specific to the Vault to be built," says Ryan Sears, lead designer of Vault-Tec Workshop. "Hallways, lobbies, rooms, stairways, bridges, Vault doors ... All things that are exploring the Vault in the game. You can use them to design your Vault as Favorites. ".

In addition to the large building blocks, you can also access furniture, new decorations for Vault (including a statue of Vault Boy and Vault Girl), objects related to the experiments, which you create by addressing the missions included in the DLC, and new Barber chairs and surgery. That's right, you will no longer be forced to go to Diamond City to change appearance! You can simply assign a resident in one of the chairs to get a haircut or a facial reconstruction. (Note: these chairs work only for your character. NPCs prefer to keep their appearance.)

If the thought of collecting all the steel needed to build a full Vault scares you, don't worry: "this DLC include a lot of resources," assures us Kuhlmann. "In fact, before the bombs were ready to build the Vault, so upon arrival you will find there a lot of the things you need. With resources retrieved on the site you can build a good part of the Vault, even if they do not connect with other existing settlements. Further, scrapped everything you find in the space in question you will get additional resources. "

If you exhaust your resources, you can expand your search within the Vault 88. But be careful: you might recycle a wall, only to find yourself face to face with creatures infuriate. Once deleted, you will be able to build in new areas cleaned up.

In the sunlight

In this new underground space, the building will not be limited to only those kits for Vault: if desired, you can add barns, warehouses, huts, paintings of cats and more.

Once you have completed the series of new missions, you can bring a touch of Vault-Tec in all your settlements. All you can create in the Vault 88 will be available in the other zones. You can't dig underground, of course, but you can build the Vault surfaced on Spectacle Island you've always dreamed of ...

"With various pieces available, I bet you will be able to build any type of Vault" promises Kuhlmann. "Nobody is obliged to build it in a confined space. We can't wait to see the interesting creations that we propose once these new tools. "

"We are curious to see the players ' approach to Vault," says Sears. "We want to see what will be able to make the community with all available objects and how we will integrate with other pieces untethered from the Vault. Before the release of this DLC we have seen many incredible settlements that bring together different elements in a surprising way. And this is the best thing for us developers: see how people are using what we so totally unexpected. "
