Rumor: Microsoft readies three new models of Xbox, a streaming stick and more
We start with the famous American blog Kotaku , which received from the different sources of information that Microsoft is at work on two new Xbox One. The first, coming up this year, according to sources of the blog, will be " an Xbox One more cheap and small , equipped with a 2 TB HDD, however: is unspecified, but imagine it's the slim model to which previous rumor had already mentioned. This model is expected to be announced at E3.
The other model which mention the sources of Kotaku, instead, should arrive in 2017 and this had already heard in old rumor: an enhanced Xbox One, codenamed Scorpio , equipped with a more powerful GPU with support for 4 k and also capable of supporting the visor VR Rift , owned by Facebook and with whom Microsoft already has a partnership agreement.
Kotaku also adds important information: both consoles are part of a strategy by Microsoft called Project Helix , which sees an increasingly strong convergence between Xbox and Windows to the point that in Redmond all internal Studios now have a mandate to produce future titles for both Xbox and Windows 10, Halo included. Kotaku earlier sources also confirm what rumor had mentioned, namely that Microsoft will shift the production of Xbox on an iterative model at Apple with new hardware coming out at constant frequency (imagine every two years or every year) and with all games must be compatible with both the past and future hardware. A hypothetical Halo 6 , in short, would be compatible with Xbox One, with the Xbox console that powered the 2017 but also with possible would be in later years. In addition to exit on Windows 10.
And we come now to what is revealed by the American journalist Brad Sams, author of leak Elite controller; in his latest podcast Sams explains that Microsoft will announce two "device to stream" at E3. The first will be a HDMI dongle similar to Chromecast — a small device can be connected to one of the HDMI inputs on the TV. The purpose of this " Xbox Stick " would be to receive and display a video signal streaming to an Xbox One present in the House, so that we can play on a second TV exactly as is already the case with streaming on PC.
The other device would be a sort of "Xbox TV", a mini console without disk drive and hard disk that can download and run the app base and probably also those Universal Windows program Platform, not able to run the Xbox One games but has the same ability to play streaming of Xbox Stick . This console would aim to make us use natively app like Netflix and similar on a second TV set, while for gaming would act as a client to stream to an Xbox One already present in the House. Unlike Chromecast-like stick, this would have the advantage of allowing the use of app when the other Xbox is used by other family members.
And for now the rumor stop there. To find out how much of this will turn into reality we will have to wait until the E3 though it is highly unlikely that Microsoft wants to announce the Xbox "enhanced" with one year in advance: for what we will probably wait until next year, while regarding the Xbox Slim and two streaming devices, if real is very likely to be announced at E3. Of course stay tuned for any updates to the case!
