Apparently there is a return to basics for Epic Games: it seems that the company that gave birth to the series that made the history of competitive multiplayer, Unreal Tournament, is working on a new game focuses heavily on this feature.

Epic has posted a job announcement that you are looking for Systems Designers to work on two projects: one of these is the previously known Fortnite, while the other is " a competitive online action game not yet announced, that includes the player's evolution, strong use of objects and a dynamic economy "; the candidate is also required to experience in creating " shooting games, MMO, RPG or RTS ".

It seems then that the company is working on an online game focused on competitive multiplayer, RPG components, and probably also a persistent world. A sort of third person shooter MMOG, perhaps? Perhaps a World of Gears based on Xbox One cloud?

We are waiting for news about it though, since he talked to last E3, probably we will have to wait until next year to learn something more.
