New details on Sunset Overdrive

In addition to the colorful and freaked -trailer shown at the Microsoft Conference, so far did not know much about Sunset Overdrive . The guys at Insomniac, however, have released many details during a question-and-answer session sent to streaming on Twitch , so now we can get a clearer idea of the game. Read on.

Although the trailer has been presented as a cooperative multiplayer, the game will also have a single-player mode and a history, but the developers stress as this will not have a particularly realistic: one of the concepts behind the game is "fun triumphs over realism", whereby there is focusing more in creating funny situations and able to surprise playersrather than on a particularly exciting plot.

The graphic style of Sunset Overdrive was designed by Drew Murray and Marcus Smith, both with an experience of 7-8 years on the series Resistance of Sony, but this time they wanted to create something that was more influenced by other Californian developer titles like Spyro and Ratchet & Clank: the game features a very colorful graphics and cartoonosa (artistic design is inspired by the urban art and anime such as Tekkon Kinkreet)but this doesn't mean it's a childrens title. It is a mature, violent, exaggerated, extremely irreverent and funny, in which developers don't make problems to break the fourth wall (the imaginary wall that separates the audience from which they are consuming) to increase even more the level of fun. From this comment then deduce that the characters can sometimes make jokes and comments directly to the player.

The exaggerated style of the game will be absolutely original weapons and freaked out, like the rifle shoots-vinyls seen in the trailers, and effects-onomatopoeia are also seen in the movie, as the blood splashing to form the word "heashot" or the explosion whose smoke creates the word "BOOM": it is an idea coming straight from the world of American comics, that developers believe to be extremely fun.

There will be a certain level of customization: the player can choose between a male or female character, with the ability to select different types of body types. You're still deciding how i make customizable costumes, but developers hope to be able to customize even that part of the appearance of players.

The E3 trailer showed us how it is possible to traverse the game world jumping between walls, roofs and exploiting various elements of the city: this will be a very important part of the game, the characters will have different powers in order to quickly switch from one side to the other of the game world. It will not, however, automatic type moves "press a button to reach the destination", but will all be skills that will require the commitment of the players: it is important to know how to get around with the right timing and some of the movements will be separately or in sequence so as to obtain results as always best. While initially these phases were separated by real fights (during acrobatic moves we couldn't fight), now developers are trying to merge the two aspects for us to shoot and fight even during these stages.

This particular navigation system will also be used as a means by the players to defend against enemy attacks, or even as an offensive tool to gain more advantageous positions: for this reason, the system will not have a great importance in the game, because developers prefer to create highly dynamic gameplay rather than a static based on more covers.

Insomniac has also talked about how to evolve the game after the release, explaining that there will be several ways for players to provide their feedback on what they like or not, and that according to these feedback the title will be constantly modified and evolved. In particular, developers have worked with Microsoft to create a less rusty upgrade system than that of today's update, and will be able to create a persistent world in continuous mutation. Of course, players must be logged in to be able to see updates, while playing offline will have a static world: the title is constantly changing, so players connected online will benefit more.
