Epic Games has announced that he had added a new playlist to the Challenge mode of Gears of War 3 called "Alpha" that will satisfy all fans of the old game mechanics of the first Gears of War. The playlist allows up to four players per team, Lancer and Gnasher Shotgun as primary weapons and unique regeneration power of the weapon on the map much faster than other times of the playlist.

Also in this playlist will also be weapons early in Gears of War 3 but only for harvesting. The substitutions are as follows:

• Gorgon replaced dall'Hammerburst
• Boltok replaced by Retro Lancer
• Replaced by the flamethrower shotgun (Sawed-Off)

The playlist will be maintained permanently only if the community will be successful in the game and if the player feedback is positive.
